Competition for Young Viola Soloists
The Massachusetts Viola Society is hosting its first Competition for Young Viola Soloists on 10/27/2024 (Sunday) at the Community Music Center of Boston. MassViola is dedicated to supporting young violists by providing them with opportunities for artistic growth. The winner will perform with the Apollo Ensemble of Boston on 3/29/2025 (Saturday) at 7:30pm at St. John’s Church in Jamaica Plain.

Competition Date and Time: 10/27/2024 (Sunday) from 1pm to 5pm
Location: Community Music Center of Boston, 34 Warren Ave, Boston, MA
Eligibility: 14-25 (as of 10/27/2024). Applicants must reside in Massachusetts.
Repertoire: Romanze by Max Bruch. (We recommend that applicants memorize the piece.) Applicants may bring their own pianist or request a staff pianist. An additional fee ($25) will apply if you request to use our staff pianist. Applicants will have the opportunity to rehearse with their pianist on the day of the competition.
Prizes:
1st Prize: $500, plus a performance with the Apollo Ensemble of Boston on 3/29/2025. Winner needs to attend the dress rehearsal on 3/28/2025 (Friday), and one more rehearsal (date TBA)
2nd Prize: $250
3rd Prize: $100
Registration Begins: 8/31/2024 (Saturday)
Registration Deadline: 10/5/2024 (Saturday) Deadline extended until 10/15/2024 (Tuesday).
Application Fee: A $25 application fee is required to complete the registration. The fee is non-refundable.
